About the Author
For Elaine N. Marieb, R.N., Ph.D., taking the needs of nursing and other allied health students into account has always been an integral part of her teaching style. Dr. Marieb began her teaching career at Springfield College, where she taught anatomy and physiology to physical education majors. She then joined the faculty of the Biological Science Division of Holyoke Community College in 1969 after receiving her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. While teaching at Holyoke Community College, Dr. Marieb pursued her nursing education, which culminated in a Master of Science degree with a clinical specialization in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts. This experience, along with continual feedback from health care professionals (including generations of former students taught by Dr. Marieb), has inspired the unique perspective and accessibility for which this book is known.

Dr. Marieb’s commitment to students extends beyond teaching and writing. Recognizing the challenges students face, Dr. Marieb contributes to the New Directions Program at Holyoke Community College by funding a staffed drop-in center and by providing several full-tuition scholarships each year for women who are returning to college after a hiatus or attending college for the first time. She also funds the E. N. Marieb Science Research Awards at Mount Holyoke College (which promotes research by undergraduate science majors) and has underwritten renovation and updating of one of the biology labs in Mount Holyoke's Clapp Laboratory. Recognizing the severe national shortage of nursing faculty, Dr. Marieb also underwrites the Nursing Scholars of the Future Grant Program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

In 1994, Dr. Marieb received the Benefactor Award from the National Council for Resource Development, American Association of Community Colleges, which recognizes her ongoing sponsorship of student scholarships, faculty teaching awards, and other academic contributions to Holyoke Community College. In May 2000, the science building at Holyoke Community College was named in her honor.

Dr. Marieb is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Additionally, while actively engaged as an author, Dr. Marieb serves as a consultant for the Benjamin Cummings Interactive Physiology® CD-ROM series. This text— Anatomy & Physiology Coloring Workbook, Tenth Edition—is the latest expression of her commitment to the needs of the students pursuing the study of A&P.

When not involved in academic pursuits, Dr. Marieb is a world traveler and has vowed to visit every country on this planet. Shorter term, she serves on the board of directors of the famed Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and on the scholarship committee of the Women’s Resources Center of Sarasota County. She is an enthusiastic supporter of the local arts and enjoys a competitive match of doubles tennis.

Very good study guide.

I found this book to be a good study guide in the following ways:
It helped me to learn hard topics of anatomy and physiology in an easier way. The visual learning aids stayed in my head more. This is a much easier way of learning A and P then listening to long and dry college lectures. I also used the following study guides which are also on amazon:
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
These study guides had the type of questions I encountered on my college A and P test. I advise getting these books.

This book is good but there is a newer version already out which is better. If you have the Lab manual that goes with the text, this doesn't really offer anything new to you and your money would be better spent on the resource book.

Buy it for more than the coloring

I got this to help me with an anatomy and physiology class. It was created by the same person who wrote the textbook for the course. The coloring didn't help all that much, but there are activities in each chapter that helped me with the labs, both doing the labs and taking the lab quizzes. There were also quizzes at the end of each chapter (answers at the back) which helped me prepare for the chapter quizzes.

I took this anatomy and physiology class as a lark. I'm retired, and I already have a master's degree in the humanities. This class may have been the hardest class I've ever taken. I never had to learn so many details and the relations among those details in any of my undergraduate classes (again, my BA was in the humanities). This book really helped me earn that A in A&P. I took one star off because I wasted three weeks coloring those stupid pictures before I realized that was a waste of time.

Un libro que lastimosamente ha llegado tarde, a un mundo que se ha vuelto políticamente correcto

Tuve la oportunidad de leer este libro en ingles hace un año y ahora que está la versión en español he aprovechado a comprarlo y leerlo de nuevo. Hay unas actualizaciones nuevas en esta version.

Cuando leí este libro no tenía idea del Islam, el Corán y mucho menos Mahoma. No tenía idea de como poder explicar todos los sucesos y mas aún tanta confusión expresada en nuestros medios de noticias, además políticos y expertos en el medio. Siempre me pareció un tema distante, y realmente estaba a favor de la multiculturalidad y el derecho de los musulmanes para expresar su religión. Sin embargo, gracias a los hechos expuestos por el Dr. Warner en este libro me pude dar cuenta de la agenda política que posee el Islam y como esto ha esta ocurriendo desde hace 1400 años.

Más importante me pude dar cuenta de como, siendo un no creyente del Islam, los textos del Islam hablan sobre como deben tratarme y manipularme y además me han etiquetado como un Kafir. Y el Kafir es casi tratado como un animal bajo un gobierno en el que la ley Sharía es la ley de la tierra.

Además de esto, el contenido de Bill Warner se caracteríza por no ser personal y religioso sino que basado en hechos. Cada uno de sus capítulos puede ser vinculados directo al Corán, la Sira y el Hadiz, dejando claramente que de lo que el habla es realmente Islam.

Sin duda alguna, hay muy pocos que se atreven a decir las cosas asi de claras y uno de ellos es Bill Warner con sus libros. Y este libro lo recomiendo para todo aquel amante de la liberta y los derechos humanos.

Great introduction!

Coming with zero knowledge about Islam, this book served me well as a practical, easy to read, eye-opening introduction. I think many things were either vague, general or influenced by author's opinion but this is good because now I feel I'm introduced to the topic and I want to research more about this political-religious system and their current course of action in the world. A must read for beginners.

Un libro que cualquier persona inteligente y educada no debe dejar de leer. En este libro el Dr. Bill Warner nos explica y revela de manera clara de que se trata el Islam! Leer el Corán no es suficiente para entender el Islam, se debe agregar un elemento clave, que es Mahoma. Bill Warner hace un gran análisis de los hechos y la doctrina del Islam y la plasma en un texto sencillo y al grano.

Lo único que se siente, como si quedará corto ya que solo establece los hechos y no se hacen propuestas sobre el tema.

All Tactical Analysis, Little on Opening Theory

International Grand Master and former British Chess Champion James Plaskett has put together a collection of games where the Grand Masters played the Grand Prix Attack against a Sicilian Defense. For those who like to play the Kings Gambit with white, learning the Grand Prix is the perfect compliment for when black answers with c5 (Sicilian) as white still intends to follow e4 with an eventual f4 with this opening.

At the highest levels neither the Kings Gambit nor Grand Prix are overly popular as the consensus among GMs is that with proper preparation black has too many drawing chances. Yet among the rest of us, the Grand Prix offers a vibrant game with plenty of exciting tactical opportunities. Plaskett clearly has a good handle on tactical analysis and he offers plenty of useful feedback on the games. Yet on the whole, the book really is just a collection of games with no real discussion on the purpose of play nor the vision for the opening. For advanced players looking to brush up on how the GMs met certain refutations to the Grand Prix this book offers some value. For those looking to actually learn the opening, this book offers nothing more than a mere glimpse at how its been played as its contains only tactical analysis but no real focus on theory.

And excellent opening to to surprise your opponent. Many non-master level players get a sudden shock from a lower ranked player if unprepared. Many a young player has scored a win with this opening as white.
