Really, truly for families

What I love about Good Dirt is that the authors actually have families (adults with children) in mind. This isn't a "let's dumb down the Bible and give Jesus a superhero cape" kind of book. It's a thoughtful, funny walkthrough of each day of the season, with ideas to engage littles and breadth & insight for adults. You don't have to be an expert Christian, and you don't have to abandon your brain.

Each season has an overview plus a set of possible practices for the whole season. This is followed by weekly themes and approaches. Each day has a scripture, set of prayers, thought questions, and bedtime review (similar to the Ignatian idea, if that's helpful). "Boisterous singing" is highly recommended, as are various crafts-for-the-less-than-crafty (yay!) and riffs on classic traditions and spiritual practices.

Seriously, if you're trying to help yourself and your kids get closer to Jesus and each other, dig into Good Dirt.

For Anyone Who Has Been Searching For Exceedingly Good Instruction For Their Children/Family. It's Here!

I've been waiting for this book for a long time. I usually don't buy curriculum to teach my children the ways of Jesus. But Borgo and Barczi are such good writers and teachers that I bought my first sort of faith instructional book. This is it. I love how this is taking us and children through the beginning of the church year. Liturgically beautiful, too! I wish I had them here in my church to instruct in the Jesus Way. But if I can't have them, I'll take the book. I can trust them to teach us and our girls about Jesus. They are truly gifted. Order it right away!

I absolutely loved this book! I do not have any children yet, but I plan to use this book with any of the little people who come along in my life. It was extremely "user friendly" to those who are unfamiliar with the church calendar or church traditions. I would definitely recommend it to parents with children of all ages and as a great way to implement meaningful Advent traditions.

Great addition to an epic series!

This is the third book in the Storm Siren Series and I have really enjoyed this series overall. Weber did and amazing job both and creating a world that comes to life as you read this book full of magic and fun. The characters have a ton of depth and you really get to know them over the series and feel like you have known them your whole life by the time you finish the third book. I have really enjoyed this series and have recommended it to several friends.

If you want to be swept away to a intriguing land and go on a great adventure, then you need to read this series. You won't regret it. Dive in and enjoy.

FANTASTIC FINISH

I have spent a few days and nights TOTALLY wrapped up in this story!
It's a fantastic finish to the trilogy!
There was so much action and suspense. Wow!
The story continues from the first two books and it grows more epic.
The author has woven a wonderful story of finding self worth, purpose and love. There's also the theme of community and working together. I truly enjoyed this series and highly recommended it to anyone who loves stories that will capture you from the very first words!

i loved this chaos theory intoduction

I'm not a math gueek, evolutionist, or statistician. What I wanted was someone to expalain, in as simple terms as possible, what "complexity" is in terms of systems analysis - be that social, economic or otherwise. Kudos to Peters for delivering just that. I read the negative reviews written before my own, considered them, and then I bought the book anyway.

Frankly, I'm glad Peters "dumbed down" this topic for me. That's what I wanted. Not knowing much about the subject, I was still able to sense where some errors of omission were being made. And there are a few. I wish he would have finished his thought on the Monte Hall problem, for example. Don't buy this book if you are thinking it's full of exciting mathematical equations or advanced theory. It isn't. It's just an introduction to complex/chaotic systems written for the average Joe/Jane.

For all the flap over "missing Keynes' contribution" or "misrepresenting Darwin," he may very well do that. I did not buy this book expecting Peters to be a Keynes scholar or a Darwinian evolutionist. If he has read 0 Keynes and 0 Darwin, I think we can still consider him an expert on complex and chaotic systems. Certainly, Keynes and Darwin were not. I expected that Peters might know a little bit about chaos theory and complexity as it relates to the realm of economics. And that he does. So, again, kudos to Mr. Peters for dumbing down this complex topic (pun intended) enough to create a starting point for me.

Peters has overlooked Keynes's contributions in this area

Peters does an excellent job in clearly differenciating between the concepts of complexity, ignorance,risk,uncertainty,vagueness,and ambiguity.He shows how each concept has an important separate ,yet interrelated ,clearcut role to play in financial decision making.Unfortunately,Peters overlooks the fact that John Maynard Keynes had already provided an operational approach for such a decision making approach in his A Treatise on Probability(TP)in 1921.The role of conflicting and ambiguous evidence in decision making in general was discussed by Keynes in his rain-barometer-dark clouds example in chapter 3 of the TP.Keynes's point in discussing this particular problem was to show that it would be difficult to measure and quantify this particular dimension of a decision problem.The implicit danger is that no account will be taken of it if a strictly quantitative approach to decision making is taken.The importance of vagueness was discussed by Keynes in chapter 1,p.5,chapter 2,p.17 and in chapter 22,p.259.Complexity is discussed within the context of Keynes's discussion of induction and analogy.The ability to reason inductively starts to break down if the number of important independent factors(Keynes's principle of limited(finite)independent variety)grows too large and/or the interactive effects start to exhibit nonlinear relationships instead of proportionate,linear relationships.The clearcut differences between ignorance,uncertainty and risk in general decision making were discussed in chapters 6(the introduction)and chapter 26(the conclusion).Keynes defined an index to measure what he called the weight of the evidence,w, upon which probability estimates would be based.w is a measure of the completeness and the reliability of the relevant,potential,available evidence and information that a decision maker can obtain( or be aware of its existence).w is defined on the unit interval [0,1],where 0

About the Author
Graham Oppy is Professor of Philosophy at Monash University, where he has recently been Head of the School of Philosophy and Bioethics, and Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Arts. His publications in philosophy of religion include Ontological Arguments and Belief in God (1996), Philosophical Perspectives on Infinity (2006), and Arguing about Gods (2006) and numerous journal articles.

Michael Scott is lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Manchester and editor of Ars Disputandi, an online journal in philosophy of religion. He has written several papers in philosophy of religion and perception and co-authored Realism and Religion (2007) with Andrew Moore.

I don't recommend Amazon Kindle to anybody

Based on my previous experience on ebooks from other companies, I placed this order. Unfortunately, Amazon Kindle has so basic technology on ebooks. It is so hard to work with this book. Many times the book stops working and you need to restart that. Search is very hard and cheap technology. I don't recommend Amazon Kindle to anybody. Try to buy from other sellers!

This book overs implied some steps in the projects, it looks easy to follow initially, but actually not. Because the over simplification, you need to go back and review a lot. And some of the steps like rename an object are even impossible to locate, make you rather confuse where you are now.
