2nd Printing MUCH CHEAPER than this 1st Printing

I have purchased the same(7th) edition of this title and found it to be very helpful. I have traveled and lived in several countries and once considered marrying a woman from another country as well. The many questions and assumptions regarding citizenship, residence and passports is brought into focus in the first part of the book. The latter part has a very extensive list of countries and their own policies and procedures for obtaining residence or a passport. The list is not complete, however, and may disappoint someone who has a very specific foreign country in mind. I would recommend most purchase the Second Printing of this same edition at a much lower cost (approx. $50-$60) which is also available here on Amazon. It is distributed from the Sovereign Society where Mr. Bauman works as a Legal counsel and writing contributor.

This was not an expanded version!

I read all of these stories when they first came out:

Dragonmen Book 1: Mate Hunt
Dragonmen 2
Dragonmen 3: Mate Dance.
Then I saw that Book 1 was released as Mate Hunt: Dragon Men with the information that it was "expanded" and re-edited. I bought it to see what was expanded. There were more scenes and details. So I was OK with it.

However, when the #2 book was released as Mate Test: Dragon Men, it also said it was "expanded" and re-edited. That was an outright lie! Nothing was expanded about this book at all! I feel like I was tricked so I requested my money back. If you've never read anything in the Dragon Men series, it's OK. But for those of use looking for an expanded work, this was a ripoff.

I think that the story was good, but at the same time I would have liked it to be somewhat deeper. It certainly has the potential to be a bigger and more elaborate one.

Good but wished for more

It was a good book but very short. I didn't even really resolve one of the major issues that the main character was dealing with which was such a great disappointment. Even though he had found his mate, he still mourned for his lost lover and even towards the end was thinking about him. It would have been nice to read that he had fallen in love with his mate and that he had made peace with his lovers death but unfortunately that never came about. So all in all it was a good read but it left much to be desired.

About the Author
Donald Belcham is an independent contractor who has been developing applications for the public and private sectors of North America and the South Pacific since 2000. In those years he has built some green field applications, but more often than not he has inherited partially completed systems (brownfield) which were in dire need of resuscitation.

Kyle Baley has been developing applications since 1998 with a focus on web applications. He has built software for a number of industries, including transportation, telecommunications, private banking, oil and gas, online education, and hotels and hospitality.

I've been meaning to read this book for a while and finally did!!

Don't let the title fool you, it could have been "Modern Object Oriented development with .NET". In the context of improving an existing active project (brownfield) this books walks you through separation of concerns, isolating dependencies, test driven development and many other concepts in a very practical and easy to understand way.

They also cover many of the political, cultural and personality issues you will face working with any company or team and suggest ways to work around, mitigate and sell new ideas into a situation. It is very easy to go with the flow but having the confidence to buck the flow on occasion can be a big win for everyone!

This was a good book for me. I was trained as an electrical engineer and spent 20 years designing computers before taking a turn into application development 17 years ago. I read constantly, listen to podcasts and hang around a lot of very smart people so have picked up most of the modern software design patterns. The advantage of applying particular patterns is not always clear so it takes a while to work new things into my development methodology.. mostly a good thing.

I thought the book did a good job of putting many concepts into a more comprehensive context than is normally presented. This approach has given me many good ideas about how I can better apply the techniques and motivation to investigate a few things I have ignored.

I am a huge fan of technical books published by Manning. The Brownfield Application Development in .Net book is very useful for developers who work on Brownfield projects and one of my favourites. It is technically accurate, but I personally gained most from the chapters which explained the politics and participants of a Brownfield project. The "stories from the trenches" sections were fun to read and often made me smirk.

I started reading this book while I was working on a Brownfield application project. I knew from the start of the project that the task will be challenging. This book helped to maintain a positive attitude and gather my wits when the project became depressing. Sometimes it is just good to know that someone, somewhere were in a similar situation before and prevailed.

I wish there were more books like this; there are just a few enjoyable books about Software Ecosystem. Software Ecosystem in relation to Legacy / Brownfield apps is often misunderstood and usually documented by academics and not practitioners.

The first half of the book covers topics of infrastructure to support the project development. Topics covered include version control, build automation, automated tests, code metrics,

The second half is about the code, and covers OOP principles, layering, refactoring, and dependency management.

Very useful to have handy when reviewing projects for pain points and friction areas.

About the Author
Trevor St George Munroe is Professor of Government and Politics at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Kingston, Jamaica. He gained his doctorate from Oxford University which he attended as a Jamaican Rhodes Scholar after being awarded his first two degrees from the University of the West Indies. Professor Munroe has published several scholarly books and articles. He has received many academic fellowships, the most recent being an appointment (1997-98) as Visiting Scholar at Harvard University's Center for International Affairs. Professor Munroe is also a major leader in Jamaica's labour movement and a longstanding civic activist. He was appointed to the Jamaican Parliament as an Independent Senator in 1998.

This whole series is excellent ! These are truly some of the best books Iv ever read and would buy the whole series (even though Iv already read them) if they weren't priced so high for an ebook. Most books like this are around 3.99-5.99 which is do - able . I think you would sell a lot more if you put these on sale and added more attention to the covers.

Aside from the marketing details, the stories themselves are so very good! You have always been and continue to be one of my favorite authors.
